Hi to All,
Newbie here and a question for the knowledgeable. Have started to purchase equipment to allow me to make my own small bale haylage. Question is should I invest in a mower conditioner for the process or just a simple mower. All advice gratefully appreciated

The conditioner will bend and bruise th grass a lot more than a Tedder and will help it dry, probably saving you up to 36 hours depending on conditions.

On the other hand, grass cut with a mower can safely be left for up to a week (possibly more) in the swathe without harm, so long as it is not moved. Think cut flowers in a vase. Once you've turned it up, you need to keep turning it until it's dry enough to bale. Conditioned grass has already been "turned" in the conditioning process so will suffer more if there is a prolonged wet spell.

You pay your money and take your choice!:D
