Making it mandatory to muzzle dogs in public

The anti dog feeling on most other forums disturbs me. :p

Ok, so I'm being slightly flippant but for me children may as well be an alien species, I never had siblings or similar aged cousins, have none of my own and a large number of my encounters with them have been annoying and uncomfortable. Lots of times these have involved the dogs or horse and all I've come away with is the impression that a lot of parents have a breathtaking sense of entitlement (just like some dog owners, to be fair!).
But we all know you are special hun :p but it's not people like you that I find odd (it's perfectly cool to dislike children,I can't remember you ever posting about being nasty to a child, just that you don't like them).
The people who really seem to hate children and/or think of them as somewhow worth less then their dog/horse disturb me- children are just small people,no need to treat them as anything else.
Things like "In my book dogs will be muzzled in public places the day that childrens' hands are tied behind their backs" and "Absolutely - we should start a petition for children to be kept on leads." reflect a all too common attitude on here :(
As I said, the very first thing I remember being in Big Trouble for was petting a strange dog and my own son has had it drilled into him to ask permission from the owner- and to respect the decision if it is no.

If more parents remembeed to teach that and dog owners who hate children kept their dogs walks out of public parks where they KNOW there will be lots of children the second the sun comes out we would have less of a problem!
A little bit of common sence teamed with a dash of live and let live would help the world a lot!

I think the point was that in any scenario if a dog bit a child the dog would be blamed and quite probably put to sleep, even if the child happened to be whacking a strange dog over the head with a stick for lack of parental supervision.
I know :( BUT just as it is my job as a mother to stop my child running up to random dogs when we are out and keep him away from the snappy dogs who moronic owners don't see a problem with walking their nasty little **** in the childrens play area  it is the dog owners job to be on the ball and keep their dog away from **** parents who have not taught their child(ren) basic manners around dogs.

When I was a child we had a GSD that was petrified of his own shadow-came to us a 8 months after more homes then decent meals and lots of beatings :( We knew he would never be trusted around Joe Public so walked him dawn and dusk with a muzzle to keep him and anyone he came into contact with safe- the sensable way to do things IMO!

The fact remains that most dog attacks happen by a known dog in the family home, muzzling wouldn't do a thing to prevent that.

Well, muppets could stop buying dogs :p

Scroll down to see the pics of Lennox giving the dog warden a paw and getting head scratches, and a clipping from the Daily Mirror reporting same (I was on holiday so didn't realise it had been reported in the press :o)

This is what makes me so angry, why did they lie? Im sure this dog warden would have put this family at ease when she took Lennox(Im assuming) saying what a lovely friendly boy he is.

What has made this dog warden lie? was pressure put on her to lie? if so why?.

I do not agree with the actions of people who have slashed the dog wardens tyres and threatened them.

I think this whole sorry sage stinks to high heaven, meanwhile this poor dogs life hangs in the balance.

I would have thought and hoped that with the involvement of people like Victoria Stillwell & Dr Roger Mugford could have put their heads together and come up with the legal advice experts that the family need to try to win this case.

My posts are NOT anti children in any way AT ALL. I am peed off with the attitude of certain parents who have, at the very least, a duty of care to their children and assume that dogs are just an entertainment for their children.

I do not have children of my own, but I do have nephews and spend a lot of time with them. They do not have dogs as the family go away too frequently but my brother and his wife have taught them how to approach strange dogs. I took my younger nephew out today and we met an 8 month sharpei puppy in Holland Park.He asked if we could stroke it, we were asked to be cautious as the dog was fine but a little jumpy. But just to point out that nephew assumed he had to ask and was properly cautious. And he is just 10.

Look, with respect Fiona, I am not going to change my mind any more than you are going to change yours. I will call a dog as I see it and we have had dogs put to sleep for behavioural problems before and I will no doubt do it again.

I'm sorry, my post must be unclear as you've misunderstood me. I was asking you whether the newspaper account was a lie and was perfectly prepared to believe it is. My mind is far from unchangable, I was asking BECAUSE I know little about the case on either side. Someone had posted the newspaper link, and it seemed to clash with what's being said here.

I'm sorry I upset you, not my intention.
