I was looking at my ever increasing muck heap in the corner of the field this morning and wondering what I could do with it to generate a bit of money. No one seems to want to buy horse manure nowadays and I begrudge paying someone to take it away.

I had read about the possiblility of making brickettes for wood burning stoves/open fires out of horse manure and was wondering if it might be a good idea to buy a brickette maker and see how we go. The manure brickettes burn nicely and omit no smell apparantly

Do you think it might be a goer? Would you buy manure brickettes if you had an open fire? We wouldn't charge much for them obviously, but it would be a green and productive way to dispose of the muck heap, and as the saying goes 'where there's muck, there's brass'

I looke at doing this for own use but it seemed a bit labour intensive & having enough space for them to dry out was an issue. Not sure if you would make much money.
My ideas have been very fanciful though - I thought of muckercize -people pay to get an all over workout by mucking out stables with me shouting instructions at them. The other idea was to make a "mud" pack type of thing - I'm sure I can convince some mug that a mares poo wrap will make them look young at £100 per go!

I swap my heap with a neighbour who uses it on his veggie patch, he gives me 3 or 4 round bales of straw, and usually potatoes, tomato plants, flowers whatever.

I don't use much straw at all as they live out, and this keeps me going all year, in fact I sold a spare bale for $15 this morning.
