How the hell do I make bright orange feathers white again?!

Our field has a large bog in it (about half the field!) and my little rat of a pony has been wallowing in it for weeks. He and his equally annoying friend spend hours everyday splashing about in it. He comes in every single day with his legs black to the elbows (and mud splattered all up his face too).

Last weekend he was dragged in to be scrubbed and cleaned for a show, and I discovered his feathers are orange. Properly, you've-been-tango-ed orange

Four scrubbings later with whitening shampoo and they're still orange

Any recommendations for getting them white again? Or at least less orange? He's MEANT to be going to the Highland show (to do youngstock traditional coloured, so he needs his feathers!) in three weeks time, so they need to be a better colour!

After washing, while legs are DAMP not wet get the talk on them then bandage, give them a few hours and brush out, thins SHOULD help, my Shetland is the EXACT same (little monkey) this seems to work for her, its not a lasting soloution but it should last for the show day but give it a good go before hand

HOPE THIS HELPS

Steredent tablets - crush and mix into a paste with some washing up liquid and LUX soap flake, Slap on like a poultice and bandage over and leave to soak overnight. Next day wash all off with warm water, rinse till clean. Do this every couple of days till they come clean.

Once dry, coat in Liquid Parafin - same as in Baby Oil. work well into hair so that he is oozing the stuff, then the mud can't get a hold.

Finally the night before a show, mix Curash Baby powder (contains Zinc) into a workable paste with hot water. cover the white, rubbing well in and then bandage over. Next day remove bandages and brush oout excess dried powder.

I can't comment on how to make the feather white - but I HAVE found that putting whitening paste on feather then brushing out the powder flattens them, makes the attract the dust and look grey. I never put paste anywhere near feather at show time

Jee, that sounds to me like a right recipe for a massive rash

I just do hard work - purple or SuperPoo shampoo a good few times, then either chalk or coal and brush out.

Thanks.

Tried the scrubbing and elbow grease. Spent an hour at the weekend with whitening shampoo but didn't make a blind bit of difference

Does that not irritate the skin?! His feathers are orange right to the base, and currently only about and inch long at the front as they've been bog burnt off, so the mixture would be directly on the skin!

Chalking makes very little difference- they are far too orange for that!

Not sure this would work but have you tried a product called 'equine blue'?

If you want i could provide you with some to see if its any use before pruchasing as i can imagine how annoying it can be to get it and it not work or help.

Also cowboy magic stain remover helped at all?
