Just a quick report from today really as I can't bear anymore rubbish TV!!:
My horse has had a couple of veterinary problems and at one point the prognosis was quite bleak. After gentle rehabilitation (over many yrs I may add) we seem to be getting somewhere (keeping everything crossed).
My instructor/friend is riding him in some prelim dressage champs this summer. The last few weeks he has come on leaps and bounds. First we changed his bit from quite a heavy KK training bit to a plain bradoon with much thinner pieces. He is now not leaning the way he was.
For the first time over the last week I have felt what it is like to have him working from behind over his back and into a very soft contact. It really is a revelation! He is so much more elastic and submissive. I can hardly believe what is happening. In the past I have fiddled too much with my hands 'reining' his head into a 'false' outline. The difference I feel now is amazing. Do you know what I mean??????
The only prob we have with him is that he is very keen and once he thinks it is time to canter he gets a bit tight and speedy.....any tips!???
Also my instr keeps saying I need to lengthen my inside rein as I keep it shorter than the outside and carry it slightly higher than the outside. I would have thought as the horse is longer through the outside you could have it a tad longer????
Anyway just general chat. Interested in other's experiences of what I have only just felt!!!
