'report' because it's really just a chance for me to show off some photos
.
Our day didn't start too well.
- I overslept because I was up late working on my dissertation.
- Checking emails just before leaving the house showed a rather annoyed email off my supervisor as I'd not sent him the dissertation draft
.
- Snow(!) on the way to the yard.
- Snow while we were at the yard hitching up.
- Evil demon pony in the stable next to M escaped and I had to catch it.
- Got to venue and couldn't park trailer so had to unhitch, unload horse, and park it by hand <embarrassing>.
- Horse was tied to the box when a rabbit hopped past so she freaked out and snapped her headcollar
.
- Horse then decided everything was out to kill her, culminating with her jumping on my foot in my riding boots and breaking 2 toes.
Buuuuuut, once we got to the actual XC bit she was fab
. Cracked her problems with water after about 5 minutes and she was jumping in, cantering through, and jumping out like a pro. Ditches are crossed off the scary list, as are big open oxers (tho that's more me than her, the chance of getting legs caught terrifies me) and steps. We probably didn't jump anything bigger than 60 or 70cm but it was meant to be a low-pressure outing to work on her water issues and get her jumping out of a forward stride. Next time we'll work on more complicated/bigger stuff.
She also loaded and travelled like a complete dude there and back so I'm happy
. Goes to show that a bit of patience and gently asking for forward works better than trying to force her to do things she's unsure of.
Anyway, photos:
