2 months ago my Husband and I said goodbye to our first child, our 14 year old Jack russell who battled Kidney disease heroicly for over 12 months.
I cant have children, so my dogs are my life.

I am still bereft from losing my little boy, and it looks like I will be saying another goodbye to my 14 year old girl very soon.

Julie is a little whippet we rescued 13 years ago, back in 2021 she suffered a massive stroke and was unable to walk, eat, see and hear.
All our vets urged us to put her to sleep but we could'nt, so we gave her time.
Over a few weeks she regained everything but her left side was definitely damaged.

She has been going steadily downhill the last 12 months, so much so that if she falls over(which happens a lot) she cant not get back up, and we often come home from work to find her in her own pee :(

It has been a very tough decision but between her bouts of falling her hips being very arthritic and the clear dementia she is suffering I have decided to schedule the vet.

I just dont know what I will do without her :(

I'm sorry to hear about your dog, but it sounds like it's definitely time and I'd have her pts sooner rather than later.

Thinking of you at this sad time.

I'm sorry for your losses but really, how do you think your whippet feels lying stuck in her own urine unable to get up because her body has failed her?
You should put your own feelings aside and do the right thing for your dog. Ring the vet today.

Better a week too soon than a day too late
Subtle as usual......😶

It was however, what I was kind of getting at tbh.

It is so hard to lose them but you have done everything and this is your last gift to her. It hurts a lot and sometimes it seems to never go away. Everyone who has lost a dog will tell you it does get better. I can still well up at memories on my phone of my little JRT who I lost 4 years ago. But life does go on and another dog can be loved just as much in time.
Thinking of you and wishing her a peaceful journey over the bridge x

I can empathise OP as my husband and I don't have children and our animals are a huge part of our lives. We had our rescue GSD PTS last August (my husband knows the exact date and time of when we lost any of our dogs over the last 30 years). I still miss him desperately. It's definitely time for you to say goodbye to your beloved Julie. It's the right thing to do for her. It hurts so much to lose them because we love them so much. The Blue Cross offer pet loss support if you feel you would benefit:
