Definitely bute. Maybe the vet was confused?Are you sure it wasn't Danilon? Bute doesn't have a palatable coating as far as I'm aware. I can't get any of mine to eat Bute in anything ever!

Maybe vet didn't want to risk the bute losing its palatability. I followed her advice and added the Bute just before feeding and mare ate it without any trouble.I've heard this too TOT but Bailey and Lari have never had issues not eating bute in their breakfasts.
I actually looked on the Phenylbutazone data sheet at the time and it says;
Dampening of the veterinary medicinal product in feed 5 minutes prior to feeding has been shown to have no detrimental influence on the palatability of the veterinary medicinal product. However, the influence of prolonged dampening on palatability or stability of the veterinary medicinal product is not known.
I do this as well. Infact sometimes with hot water so it's like a warm porridge by the time I get to the yard - because I am raising very spoiled but very lovely poniesGet an old supplement bucket with a lid and make it up at home so it will be done by the time you get to the yard.
I always like to give a warm feed in the winter. I'm soft, i always like to think it keeps them warmer. Probably doesn't make any difference lol.I do this as well.
