Well, my boyfriend came out for a ride with me yesterday (his first) and is keen to do and learn more. He has even said today how he would like to go to the beach and gallop hmmm lol.

But he has been having a bit of a moan about his 'plums' and complaining that they are sore. So I promised I would ask and find out if there are any hints or tips/tricks that may help or any man wear that may help!?!?

My laughing at him isn't going down well or earning me browny points and helping the quest to buy a new cob for 'him' so anyone know anything?? Thank you!!!

My OH has the same opinion, wearing the proper undies is a must!!! He also advises that a trot on a very bouncy horse is a NO until rising trot is well established and if possible use a western saddle, this is the most forgiving - now I know why he always asks for that one when he has a choice!! lol!!

lol this made me chuckle!
A few tips!
Boxer shorts a big no no!
Briefs probably best protection!
Your body will slowly adapt to the concussion and the area will be less delicate as you ride more often.
As an instructor I always try to teach guys to rise on the correct diagonal from the start to avoid shreeks and ashen faces!

Well fitting jods is the method my BF uses. Also a saddle that is the right size for the rider. He has a horse (17h) on trial that came with a 16" saddle, for two days he was VERY sore, as he is a 5ft11 bloke. Now we have put a 17.5" saddle on, he has no problems. Dressage saddle did make him a little sore for the first few days.

Hubby complains of this too, i tell him he shouldnt wear boxers but he doesnt listen. He lost his balance recently when landing at a jump. He informed me that it was a good job i was pregnant as he doesnt think he will have any more kids lol

I must admit it can be a problem at first, especially when learning to ride. I remember after one lesson my thighs were bruised black and blue but I’ve never suffered with my parts being injured. They get a bit cold on a leather saddle on a frosty morning but that’s another story LOLs

Typical response hey fella's... the girlies can laugh!!!

My solution I have to admit...... good old asda y fronts!!!
Pretty thick material and they tend to ....keep him in place?!?!
The extra thickness helps with the compression during trot!

As already mentioned, little guys become accustomed to the impact and over time will become less sensitive to the matter in hand!
Alt options is somewhere like robinsons, who supply well padded gear aimed at the problem directly. Bloody expensive though, and I have to say, not the most comfortable wear once of the horse.

Your OH has my sympathy.....

Ha ha thank you everyone, I am sitting here in fits of giggles!

I have forwarded him your replies so no doubt he will be sporting some rather attractive undies next time.

Good point about the saddle, mine is only 17" so not very man friendly, even more reason to buy this other little cob.

Keep them coming lol!! Thanks all!

Gaffa tape.

That should hold everything nicely in place.

OMG.... would you wanna watch him cry in absolute agony when peeling off the used tape?????
That is beyond the realms of torture!!

If he gives you any grief I'd take his stirrups away!

PMSL at this thread... sorry guys, but I bet you were all having a good gander at the supportive bra thread a while back!!

oh and by the way I'd say probably gaffa tape preferable to total public humiliation - I used to have a horse on working livery, and wandered over to watch him in a lesson one day, he had a quite novicey male rider that day and errrrmm lets just say the eye catching red tracksuit bottoms were not helping his RISING trot to go un-noticed!

(sorry couldn't resist that one)

A seat saver is a godsend. I have a nice wooly one bought by my OH for my birthday
grin.gif

It is pretty hard to sit upright correctly and not to become intimate with the pommel, so you have to find your own place. Tell him not to look at pictures of ladies sitting in almost perfect position, as without surgery no normal well proportioned man (aren't wel all) is ever going to be able to sit like that...not even someone with Bruce Lee skills.

Good pants, a must, well fitting jods, a must, right size saddle, a must oh and don't listen when she says that a trot without your feet in the stirrups is easier uphill...lies all lies (he squeeks).

LMAO

My OH has just started riding (and he's good - hmmmmm). We had a lesson today and he started rifling through his underwear. "I need something tight" was the muttering
grin.gif

So, supportive and tight to keep everything in place, and the saddle! OH hates my 17" saddle, much prefers the 18" he rides on.

QR: Re Boxers; I can't see many men wearing boxers with jodhs anyway?! I don't think it would be the best look!
