male riders?

I turned mine into a rider - given hes not as dedicated as I like but he comes hunting and trekking, but I have a rider to keep his horse fit for him which works well.

My oh is a trainer and rider. When I met him I was at uni and on a horse break. Now I have moved in work with him and have 2 horses already and possibly another on the way...eeeek.!

Lol ant... I have married twice. Both times to non horsey men. If I was honest the hassle it causes has made me think it would have been much easier to date riders. You cant help who you fall for but horses are such a time consuming passion that it would be good if your soul mate shared your love for horses too....

My man used to show jump when he was a lot younger, then when he got into the lorries a bit more stopped. He hadnt really ridden at all again until he met me, now he will come out with me on hacks and is talking about wanting his own at some point in the near future.

I don't know if they all marry or end up with someone horsey, but having been with non horsey men, it's much easier to now be with someone who at least has a vague interest in them lol!!

As a 40 something single male , I did for ages think it was a good idea! now after a few bad expiriances I've come the the conclusion its better to be happly single !!! but maybe the right girl is out there amongest the gold diggers and mad women,, oh well onwards and upwards :D

My bf hates horses women according to him they are all psychos, have fat backsides and resemble their horses! I assume im an exception ;)
Q

He sounds a charmer!

My husband rode years before he met me, then married a non-horsey lady, got divorced, few years later he met me, and rode my mare (who hated him and bullied him!). His young son got into riding too, we got a pony for him as a companion for my mare, then when we got engaged I bought my hubby a horse. Nowadays stepson is massive, he shares his dad's horse, and we just have him and my mare. Hubby doesn't ride as much but still does the horses when I'm away etc. Think he will ride more when our renovation is over.

I would like to meet someone who was similarly interested in the things that interest me. My current girlfriend simply isn't (and we don't even like the same films - which makes it worse!)

So.... any takers?! :D

I like big hairy horses, cats, sharks, films, and aeroplanes. I'm no oil painting but you could do a lot worse! :p

single straight men who ride at least should have plenty of choice of ladies who ride as there seem to be some many more of us then blokes. but maybe they realise we will always put our horses before them!
my boyfriend will never ride, he doesnt trust things without brakes! but he like the horses and knows they are my babies. helps he is also addicted to a 'hobby', being a triathalete

While it is nice to have separate interests and hobbies, horses are so time consuming and tying that a horsey OH would be fantastic.

I am a 40 something happy hacker, so I don't spend time competing etc, but I still have to work my days and holidays (holidays, what are those? :D) round the horses. A horsey man would be fantastic, or even someone who just enjoys pottering around the stables etc.

So, to summarise, a horsey OH would be preferable to a non horsey OH, but whether or not males 'go' for horsey women (or men :D) would surely be down to attraction and not lifestyle?

I am male and own a horse. My girlfriend rides now and then but my horse bullies her. She wants to get her own eventually, who will be a friend for my lad in his field.

I taught my OH to ride it was .... Interesting .
He I think found the whole horsey woman thing perplexing and interesting I don't think many women who are totally unconcerned how they look 80% of the time had crossed his path.
He loves hunting I tend only to go when he's not out as it tends to lead to domestics it goes like this "Fatty won't x " me usually while rideing a young not made hunter "well stop doing y and Fatty will do x" OH "don't tell me what to do" que spirited domestic .
So I tend to stay home .
He's the typical Alpha type clever very sucessful and it's difficult for men like that to accept that women are better at something physical than they are but he's been a complete star he pays the huge bills with just a bit of moaning for effect and has let me live my dreams he's cared for me when I get smashed up and never wanted me to stop . We are both in our fifties now so winding down a bit ( only four horses now) after my last smash I learnt to drive and we do when we can HDT's together it is hilarious .
I am glad he rides I am glad he's a driven indvidual himself he understands me better for it .
He does get sick of the horsey mess (home and wife )sometimes so I do try to make an effort.

Goldenstar, I found this thread looking to see if there's any advice out there for someone about to teach the hubby to ride, after 25 years of marriage! I think it's wonderful that you share a passion for horses. Mine has had years of helping muck out etc and always swore he has no interest in actually riding. A few weeks ago he announced, completely out of the blue "I wouldn't mind a Clydesdale, you know". As I have TBs I honestly didn't know HE knew what a Clydie was. Lovely excuse for some horse-shopping. We're in our 50s and mad enough to be increasing our equine numbers and activities.:D

I taught my husband to ride around ten years ago because it suited me! I had another to exercise plus my own so two birds one stone etc...but glad he didn't continue as its nice to have some "me" time!
I don't think it matters as long as you both have full on hobbies and can appreciate how much time and effort both take :-)

I met my horsey husband through horses, he brought his horse to the same yard I rode at, 9 years on and we're married :)

He's got a lot more guts than me when it comes to riding, he's done a lot of eventing and showjumping.

My husband is a farmer and was not at all interested in horses until i snared him.

First he started showing my ponies :

then he decided this year to learn to ride. but despite having three we dont have any pony bigger than 12.1 so he now rides/shares a 17.3 - and is a total natural rather annoying, only started this feb now cantering all over the place, going out for 3 hour hacks and wanting to jump...which is amazing BUT i cant go with him as my pony actually cant keep up, see the height diffrence!! But its really nice sharing a hobby and he still has seperate hobbies like rugby :)

Well, now that I am newly single, it would be nice to find someone I can spend time with doing something that we both enjoy...!

i here myths of these nice horsey men but am yet to meet one its been 18years of horses for me but i've only ever met elderly men, gay men or those arogant little so and so's though they are pretty jsut don't really get my intrest.
I do feel thier are few nice horsey men and as thier are so many many nice horsey women that us average joes just don't get a look in. My equine dentist is definetly the hottest kindest man ive ever met and he has a long following of very pretty girls lol

I did, she's probably a better rider than me, but I'm better at show producing. Our main (mane :p) source of arguments is probably horses, but it all works out quite well, especially now we've created a brood of mini-me riders.

My wife is not a rider, but my previous girlfriends had been. There is no rule, just who you fall for. Common interests obviously help though

Met my OH at a livery yard we both kept our horses at, he's been riding since he was 4 and I've been riding since I was 6. Been together 3 & a half years, we both compete SJ and run a livery/competition yard together :)

He's such a talented rider and a brilliant teacher, has brought me on to where I am now and I wouldn't have the confidence I do now if it wasn't for him.

We're like best friends too :D very lucky to have my partner as my team mate as well

Also comes in handy when I can't be bothered to ride :D:D

Met my other half when we were kids at a local riding school.

about 7 years later here we are lol sharing our TB and loving it :D

I'm the better rider though. (I know she reads this forum XD)

Just have to say all this talk of teaching OH's to ride is giving me hope that'll I'll be able to convince hubby to take up riding one day :D
