Are mites the only cause of mallenders and sallenders? Or can hyperkeratosis just happen anytime? My cob has a mild case but isn't stamping or biting his legs.

Mites do not cause hyperkeratosis. It is a genetic condition. Mites are attracted to the extra skin that is created so often you'll have Mites with hyperkeratosis. But Mites absolutely do not cause them.
