Malthouse EC - shocking behaviour !!!

Charlie76's story doesn't agree with the story from the other forum -

Charlie76 is claiming that she is being herded to the start fromt he warm up before she is ready. The other story claims she is being herded from the start back to the warm up because the venue is running late.

Care to explain why there is a discrepancy / which is correct?

Oh God, here I go again, this is where I upset everybody.

Yes if this is the case poss,,, BUT The venue is running late..... not early which would give the rider extra time to warm up and be ready. The rider is not wearing a number as far as I can see. I am not making excuses for the quad rider BUT organising an event is stressful. Riders coming late... not being ready.... wanting to jump the start list. If this was 2'6 it would not have been the last class of the day there would have been at least one more after it. Again not giving the quad rider an excuse if this was the case but

Please please Riders, Please warm up and be at the start at your allocated time! I know its annoying if an event is not running to time and is late but if you are not ready you are NOT helping matters!!!

Also I beg to differ, look at the video again the rider is stood to the right hand side of the quad , it is not behind her herding her. It only moves forwards when she does. Also rider probably wants to just get her to the start so that everyone can get the class finished and they can all get home!

Again.... Not making excuses but anyone who has spent a day helping to run an event as well as setting up the day before , will know how infuriating it is when you get people who are just not ready!

Ok .... so who have I upset? lol

I don't know the person so can't vouch for anything but as the version I copied from the other forum is in the first person (ie I did this and I did that) then I'm assuming it's more accruate than "my friend said this and my friend said that"

Just passing on what I'd seen elsewhere.

So the rider was asked to go to the start but said she wasn't ready and refused while continuing to warm up ?Then had a temper trantrum and withdrew ?
If she wasn't ready, there are better ways of dealing with it. Sounds like bad behaviour.

Have you actually read Charlie76's explanation???

It really does surprise me that people still go to Malthouse!!!!
It should come with a health and safety warning on the schedules ;)

juliag that depends which version of events is correct though, if it is little_critters link then said rider was trying to be ready on time but being told they didn't want her to warm up yet!

I am relaying what I have read from her story originally. I understood that she was herded from the warmup to the start but it could well have been the other way round. Either way, if I was in the riders shoes I would not have wanted to have had a quad bike up my back side which ever way I was going!
I run XC and other events, people do turn up at the wrong time, manners and patience as an organiser costs nothing IMO
I will also like the add that the rider in the video stated on another forum that only 10% of the incident was videoed, the rest of it was witnessed by other people.

Yes I do agree about the last sentence. However it is an odd story. Still cant quite understand why she has no number on although that is poss irrelevent but you dont go to the start without your number do you. All very odd, although I am still not sure it all stacks up myself.

Not that I know anything about it, not sure anyone can deduce anything from that clip. not enough to try malthouse on and find them guilty anyway.

sorry I was trying to quote from a poster but it seems they have removed their post???

It makes a difference, Charlie76, because if she was holding the class up further by not being ready despite the late running, I can understand the organiser's frustration (as juliag's post). If you're mistaken or have misunderstood, then it is less forgivable.

However, we're only seeing one side of the story and personally I can well believe that some competitors are just as rude and abusive as some organisers may be. I'd never be involved in this sort of event as I can't stand people and would probably behave far worse if I had a competitor being rude to me as the organiser.

This is what she wrote:
Owner of a local riding centre chasing my horse (he is luckily sensible) out of a field where I was waiting to start my XC round - they were running late and not ready. I had already asked her to stop chasing me twice before my husband started videoing - should your insurance be invalidated for this behaviour??!
As a paying customer and someone who has been judging for them, I feel that this clearly premeditated behaviour was entirely inappropriate, and just wanted to share.
thanks

She was ready! The organiser was not, therefore chased her away and wouldn't let her go to the start or warm up.

Honestly, why would anyone, no matter what the situation, late competitor or not( and she was not late or holding up the class!) think that it was acceptable to run a quad up behind a horse when clearly being asked to stop?

Next time I run a show and a competitor is being annoying I'll hop on the tractor and chase them round- that should do the trick!

People go to a show to have a nice time, not to be scared!

she had already competed and won the class before so I imagine they didn't have any numbers- please don't be suprised- its not always the most organised venue in the world!

ah so charlie lures her competitors around with cake ;) excellent plan :D

Charlie I think your quote of what she said more or less matches up with critters post. They weren't ready for her and wanted her out of the way.

The link was posted on the horse and hound Facebook page by the lady on the horse (in pink) she could tell you more about it, I find is shocking at the through tof the other woman finding it acceptable to chase a horse and rider on a quod! Under no reason I think this should be done!

Yes the quotation correlates with critter's post. I don't think it would be acceptable to aggressively use a quad bike to terrorise a horse and rider, but I don't actually think the video shows that the quad was being used particularly aggressively - the rider clearly was angry, but the quad doesn't seem to be particularly close, or moving at speed (or otherwise acting aggressively). However, you clearly know the venue better? I'm only judging on the strength of a few seconds of wobbly phone video footage...

On the other hand, if an organiser were to put cakes after every jump, my highland might be able to be convinced to jump round a hunter trial course. He'd do anything for cake :p

Lol I had to laugh at this comment - I thought 'she' was a bloke!! :D

What ever it is, you wouldn't want to meet it alone on a dark night:D

She would be better off leaving the the quad in the yard if she can't control herself with it around her customers - not only would the general public be a bit safer, but an added bonus would be that it would shift some lard off her arse:D

I was only passing comment on what I viewed on the video and to be fair I did use smiles :D:D

But in all seriousness, surely nobody who was treated like this at a competition they had paid to enter would think it was acceptable?

More than willing to lay a cake trail or chocolate Brownies! We Also have a quad so for those That aren't quick enough, I can chase you round!

Shove a cake on the back of the quad and we'll follow you round :D

Natually, that is exactly what it would be like :o

Someone like to photoshop a cake into the ditch here? :D

Might help me get a clear round too ;)
Love the piccies :D

I don't think she was being overly aggressive with the quad ..but had the horse not been quiet it could of ended badly and I don't know why you would need to chase someone out of the warmup surely politley asking them to come back later would be better :) I also don't see why they would have a problem with someone warming before they were ready to start surely that is upto the competitor when they want to warm up and for how long. They should be happy they aren't having to wait for people in the class.

There are some strange people
