I have recently got a little Man horse lorry, it is a K reg so pretty old. Just wondered what people's experiences of these are? Do you find them easy to drive? I'm struggling with gear changing! Thanks

Not sure about MAN, but Iveco of that year were awful to change gear, even with double declutching.

Could you ask your mechanic to have a drive to make sure it is as it should be?

Do you double de-clutch? Of that age they *should* not need it, but the older ones often do! I have regularly driven Iveco, Daf, Renault and Dodge of that era and they certainly needed it!

With a new lorry it often takes time to learn the idiosyncrasies, and what speed the lorry *likes* to change at.

We had a L reg Daf 18 39 foot, 18 tonner at work. It was an absolute pig to drive. Once you had got into it though it was OK, so much so that I bought a similar 12.5 tonne K reg version for at home. It took some getting used to, to the point that I would not let other people drive my horses in it as it needed a particular touch!

One Iveco, the R reg, had a split gearbox that was so stiff that it tore my (previously injured) shoulder. I had to quit driving it!
