My little retired Sec b is borderline cushings and has COPD/asthma. I will be speaking to my vet this Friday but just wondered how others manage their ponies.
Its not really bad and all summer he has been fine, breathing regular and very little coughing for 99% of the time. He is extremely well in himself, holds his weight and condition and is looking fab
He lives out all summer but has to come in overnight in winter as our ground just wont stand 24/7 turnout, he does go out from 7am til 5pm every day and is in overnight. He is bedded on good clean straw, fully mucked out daily and I dont build up the banks any more. Ive taken the stable door off and he has a slip rail, the box is one of 2 together and are outside boxes. If the weather is ok his box is left open and he can wander outside on to a secure bit of yard. He has honey in his soaked feed and soaked hay and access when in to a respiratory lick. Hes not on any other meds. Already this year, he has been coughing a bit more for the last week or so. He is clipped and rugged appropriately as he does grow a thick coat and gets too hot on nicer days. Any ideas for helping him through the winter. He is retired but comes out on walk hacks where my husband leads him whilst I ride my other pony, hes a very calming influence on her in the lorry and seems to love his trips out, especially when he is allowed to lag behind and snaffle leaves and bits of foliage :)

I'd change the bedding. The one we have here is definitely worse with straw. It's not necessarily dusty, but mould spores and ammonia set him off.
