Following on from my thread after broncing angel unseated me I now have a broken wrist. Was still riding and poo picking, but thought I better get it checked out. Interested now to those who have had broken bones, how did you manage to care for your neds. I plan to continue but not ride of course albeit at a much slower pace.

When I've broken bones I've still done all the jobs needing doing, albeit at a slower pace. I don't ride any of my lively horses at those tiems but I've kept up riding my calmer ones. Do you have a plaster of paris cast or one of the lightweight ones? The P of P ones are a real pain in the backside when dealing with horse jobs so hopefully you have a lightweight one which doesn't matter too much if you get it a little wet or dirty.

Thats encouraging, my hubby thought i was nuts this morning, he could not believe I had poo picked with one hand. Its in P of P but have to go back on wed to be assessed, it only went on today. Hopefully they change for a lightweight one.

I usually do things that mean i cant carry on... broken legs... broke pelvis.... pop cartlidge out of knee.. broken neck.

But with a broken finger or toes i just carry on as normal.

sorry cant be much more help than that but ROLL ON FRIDAY..... CAST OFF - woo hooo

Thats an impressive amount of breaks, this is my first. Take care at the weekend:)

I broke both ankles and was stuck in a wheelchair for a few months - obviously being careful about which horse, I was still leading them round the yard (tuck the rope under my knee, on a closed yard;)) mucking out as much as possible, grooming etc.
I had further surgery on one ankle a couple of years later and about a month later whilst I was still in cast and non-weight bearing my mare went lame and was on box rest. At that yard I had little support so was doing everything, including lugging water (none running on the yard) for her. My mom came and did the wheelbarrow part cause I simply couldn't do that but she's disabled so couldn't do much more for me.

It's amazing what you can do with broken bits, just be careful about how you do it :D:D
