Okay so my horse rubbed her tail in the trailer (had a freak out, she's not too small-it's a 510 she's 16.1) not too badly, but enough for it to be flaking now about a month later.. :(
Just wondering if anyone uses anything in particular to help regrowth? Previously used cooking oil not sure how effective it was!

She's out 24/7 in a heavy rug and I'm also petrified her mane will get rubbed (it's a full neck and that post earlier kinda freaked me out lol)
Also if anyone uses anything to keep mud from sticking and building up in tails?. Not keen on buying the bottles of conditioner as they're so expensive!

Basically asking if anyone knows of some cheap potion that can grow manes and tails and stop the mud sticking too much? Might be kinda unrealistic :')
Thanks in advance :D

TBH I don't think anything makes tails or manes grow any faster, you could try baby oil I find it helps to stop the mud sticking and I don't use neck covers anymore, just cut them off as they rubbed. When it's really wet and muddy I plaster the tail in conditioner and plait it and it seems to keep it looking OK. My boy rubbed his mane in the summer and took two big chunks out of it, I've just pulled it really short, just enough to plait if I have to, and hopefully by the spring it will look better.

Another vote for MTG.

Not sure if you can get it here but a product called Laser Sheen (by Farnham?) is good. Keeps it off the hindquarters when my mare swishes it around too!

Honestly the best way to preserve thickness and length in a tail is to not brush it hardly ever. For shows I coat in laser Sheen, then Twist the tail and use a wide tooth comb working up from the bottom. Takes ages but it's not often and my horse has a thick fluffy tail that I have to cut 2-3x a year.

MTG is very good, I use the 'fresh' version which doesn't stink as much

Also tried supreme mane and tail rebuilder with a decent amount of success but to be honest anything that cuts down friction will do a reasonable job as it will protect against damage of existing and new hair - Coconut oil and even cheapo aqueous cream can help

Megatek is good and smells amazing. Worked on a mane that was too the root and three months later is was long enough to fold over and start trimming the ends.

My hairdresser says the more your hair is trimmed and kept healthy the more it grows. So I do try with the horses to keep clean and trim just the ends once a month or so.
