Managing Turnout Paddocks

Ah OK, that';s what I wanted to know.

I saw this pic a while ago of what someone else did. They have a paddock (more squarish but that doesn't matter) same size as yours and what they did was put an outside track down. It looked really good, so image putting electric tape all the way around the inside of the paddock to parallel the outside fence of the whole thing, and in winter turned the horse on the outside track. Put water/hay all moved around, in various places. It doesn't matter how bad the track gets as that can get rested quickly come the summer, plus it's only the outside track not mushing up the whole field and your horse gets more exercise using the whole outside of the field. Then keep the inside bit untouched all winter for t/o in summer. I don't know where this pic is but it looked really good, I will try and find it for you now, so it will hopefull explain more of what I am trying to say.x

I think you are referring to a paddock paradise type arrangement.

I thought it looked really good too (not for mine though as he would just run up and down the front bit and never bother with the rest). I think it also depends on how much electric fencing you have as would need quite a lot to fence off about 3/4 of an acre.

Yes, that's it CBAnglo.

Heres the link the other thread that has the picture; http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/5247631/Main/5236034/

OP I think it's a good idea, if I had a small bit of land that's how I would probably manage it (so that's probably a sign not to do it.. lol). I really like the fact, even though they only have the edge of it it's still alot of space to trot/canter if they want and to mooch around but saved the majority of the field in the middle.

xx
