Hi I'm new to the forum and this is my first post! I am looking for some advice on mane chewing. I own a 19 year mare who is a very chilled star and have just in the last two weeks taken on a 9 year old ID/TB who is absolutely lovely. The girls have started to bond and get on well and are now scratching each other which is great. BUT .... they have managed to chew about a two inch piece out of each others manes! In short (excuse the pun!) how can I prevent this (apart from the obvious of moving them out of each others reach - which isn't practicable). I think a friend used to use udder cream on her mare's mane to stop mine pulling it out - but I don't want to give either of them anything that is not good for them, obviously. Any ideas/

Thanks! Jo

Someone once told me you could spray in some of that bitter stuff which stops them from chewing rugs and doors, which isn't bad for them! But you could also maybe plait their manes? That also means their manes are easier to manage and stops them getting dirt in them! :) good luck! Xx

Thanks for the replies - and good luck! The 9 year old likes chewing wood so I bought some cribbox - hadn't thought of using that so I'll give it a go - thanks for the help!
