I went to the field yesterday and found a stunning and very intricate plait in Chads mane.

OH had heard of the plaiting horses manes to indicate it has been 'chosen' to be stolen and panicked! I pointed out that the field is surrounded by houses, most have thick hedges or high walls at the bottom of their gardens and the only way in and out of the field is by a normal house driveway that is protected by electric gates and dogs, plus the fact that someone lives there.

In a nutshell, there is no way someone could steal my horses from where they are now and the plait is just a rather elaborate wind tangle that was a sod to get out.

I will post a pic this evening when I get home, it is rather impressive!

So, bunkum or not? Discuss!

A load of tripe! My mare's mane is long and her plaits are very impressive also. The only way someone could get to her is through my mum and dad's front garden, setting off all the security lights and waking the dogs up and night time and there's always someone there all day everyday.

I would think, that if thieves were after her, they would only be their once to steal and that would be it.. shouldnt think they would leave any pre warnings like that........atleast havent heard of that up with me.
they would have to get through the 3 foot snow drift to get into my yard to start with.

Ha ha, agree with last post. Mine is hogged anyway - how on earth would they mark hin to steal. He also has a dirty great big personalised freezemark on him - he is black so it stands out big time.
