How much would you charge to pull a mane?

Ive been asked to pull a mane and she said she would pay me, but how much should I expect or ask for??

Thanks in advance!!

guess it depends how bad the mane has gotten and how long it will take to do....and how good the horse is to have its mane pulled....!!!!! (probably more the point!)

£5/hr or something?

Depends on the horse

If someone came to pull my mare's I expect they would want more than £10 - they'd need danger money

I get asked quite a bit. I only do well behaved horses, as I think if they play up it's easier to just do it with scissors or a knife to save upsetting them (and me). I always just say "buy me a drink". This usually results in a bottle of wine!

somebody at my yard kindly did George's mop for me, she even more kindly didn't ask for anything, but I thought a nice bottle of wine was in order!

I must be a mug.. or the germans are stingy... have pulled a couple at the yard I am at to help them out as no one seems to be able to do anything but attack the mane with scissors over here.....then they wonder why the mane is 10 feet thick and looks like they have been in a fight with Edward scissor hands after a few weeks

. , makes me cringe every time I walk down the yard....

.. I got nothing for doing it....... but then I suppose I was stupid and didn't ask for anything

everyone i know doesnt want to do it themselves they always pay other people too, about a tenner (normally in wine tokens!) normally for an easy to do horse. They were shocked when i did my own - especially as i used a comb and my fingers, apparently they dont see them pulled like that anymore - its always solocombs or scissors!!!

Thanks for your replies everyone, Ive got half way thorough but the top of his mane is sooooooo thick it wasnt coming out and he got stroppy so it will be finished on Friday,

If I charged per hour that would be great as It took me from 4:30 til 6:10 tonight and its not finsished!! lol......as for the bottle of wine, im Tee Total so that would be a waste!!! Think £10 should do...:)

The only way to pull a mane is with your fingers! I do my friends and wouldn't dream of charging - it is my pleasure to ensure her horse are well turned out. Solo combs and scissors are ok in the short term but in the long you are looking at thick manes that, nine times out of ten, look dreadful and are worse to sort out than doing it 'properly' in the first place.
