My two year old does not like this at all! Having never really tried to do it before (on her, not on anything! I know how!) I thought I'd have an attempt in the hope I might be able to get the wild and wooly look under control for some upcoming shows. However she is not having any of it.

Does anyone have any brilliant suggestions on how to convince her it isn't the worst thing in the world? I was only trying to take out about three hairs at a time so no chance I was really hurting her. I guess it's just the sensation she objects to. I'd solo it but it's like a bush!

Oh heck! Does it need thinnning too?

My mare has a fairly fine mane and is a total ass about having it pulled.

I cut it to the length I want, then use thinning scissors along the cut edge to make it look less cut! It takes an absolute age tbh, but you wouldn't know when it's done.

You can keep on top of it really easily then.

Might that be an option? I have never had a lot of luck with solocombs personally. You could try a mane rake to get the thickness out?

It's blooming thick sadly. I do the other one by cutting it and using the thinning scissors as it's so fine on him. Wish it would work on her. I suppose it's just going to turn into a miserable experience for everyone. Oh dear.

I use a green comb that you put a blade in, It thins and shortens manes. Never had to pull a mane for the last 20 years and horses don't object at all!

Conmbi comb might do.

I have heard of some stuff that is herbal, you rub it into their skin and it slightly numbs the skin so they don't feel it so much. I have heard people use it to great effect, but I'm not sure of the name. Sorry
