Hi everyone, just a quick bit of help
grin.gif

My mare's mane has been rubbed out by her turnout rug and possibly her stable rug as well. Am so annoyed there is a huge chunk missing I have tried a hood but the rug still seems to be rubbing on top of it.

Anyone have any suggestions as to a good/warm make of rug that won't rub her mane?
The rugs she has at the mo are Shires and Weatherbeeta she is a T/BX so not a huge neck or anything.
any help would be great, I was hoping she might have a mane for summer this year

i was very worried about V's mane getting rubbed out but his weatherbeeta oriacan has been brilliant i bought a 6ft 3 instead of a 6ft as he is growing but its never slipped once. i got it on the equestrian clearance site for about £60 its 360gm body and 180gm hood i think and its a beautiful orange grey and black checked colour. it arrived 2 days after i ordered it

Hi there,

I had this with my mare last year who finished winter with half a mane! I think that the rubbing is caused by a build up of grease in the mane, and on the neck covers - which in turn have a really nasty rubbing effect on the mane,

This year I have made sure I scrub the neck covers every couple of weeks, and wash her mane every couple of weeks - and ta da - she still has a full mane

I really would recommend this to anyone who has suffered from rubbed manes,

Hope that helps

Thanks will have a look at the orican. The weatherbeeta she has at the moment is an under rug so a turnout might be better for her round the neck.
Will check out equestrian clearance and see what they have.

Any other suggestions would be great

My rugs have rubbed a big chunk of mane out too this year

I've found putting lots of canter mane and tail all over his mane has stopped the rubbing and it's slowly starting to grow back
