I have a 14.0 hh pony imported from Ireland that is dark bay and her mane is slowly but surely turning gray. I read somewhere that it could be because of a gene related to a specific breed which I found interesting since her pedigree is unknown. Does anyone know about this?
I find this very rare in Sweden, where I am from, but have seen other Irish ponies with the same characteristic.

this isn't wild bay, that is restricted black points.
There is another hho user with a mane the same, I've only ever seen it in warmbloods before.

I think there is a equine tapestry post about it by Lesli, I will see if I can find it.

I had a Fell pony (with a very good pedigree) which had silver white threading in her mane and tail, but body wise she was jet black. Pony was blood typed and to 2 till generations back too. Parents both full black with no white at all.
Her great grand dam on dam side was white grey, as was grand sire on sire side. (And this grand sire's father was known as Bob Silvertail, as tail fully silvered out).
She was the only one - of 11 foals from her dam - to display this v odd but endearing colouring. Pic here of tail, as a 10 year old.

I have a bright bay kwpn whose mane is turning grey. Not as grey as yours yet. Her forelock is mostly grey and the underside of her mane is very grey. She has a few hairs in her tail too. No idea what causes it. Neither of my mares parents had it. I think it looks lovely

Thanks you all! Her tail is completely black along with her forelock. Her mane is like a gradient that goes from black to almost white :)
Unfortunately her whole pedigree is unknown. It's pretty clear though that she is a crossbreed and I'd love to know her relatives. I know that she was born in Ireland and imported from Jim Derwin but that is simply all.

Another late entry! I had a friend with a bay pony with lovely grey mane and tail. He was a NF x, dad was an Arab Palomino.
