My pony's mane falls naturally to the left, when plaiting do I sweep it over to the right or do I leave it on the left ??
Does anyone have any ideas on how to thin the mane as it's so thick?? I have a thinning scissors but I don't know how to use it:confused:I have a solocomb but i'm not sure if I can use it to thin it out.

any suggestions on thinning properly ??

Thank you for reading:)

i used to have thinning scissors but i never liked them as they dont work like traditional pulling does......

if you want to pull your horses mane which takes it from the roots(if you dont already know this doesnt hurt the horse as soom seem to think) then you get a small comb and pick hairs from the underneath of the horses mane back comb slightly and the strands that are left rap round the comb a few times and pull it.....dont know if you already knew this but incase you dont you do now :L

and as for plaiting for showing you may find some judges may say to you you should have it to the right as that is what they say is 'correct' but i dont suppose it really matters for dressage jumping etc. if you can get it to the right after pulling it then do so as it does look neater generally :)

oh and a good trick for getting the mane to stay at the side you want is to use lots of spray when you brush it over and then at first put in a few loose plaits to the correct side and that should train the mane to stay there hopefully:) but definately pull it first it looks alot neater :)

sorry this took awhile to get back to you.... but yes you take the longer strand from underneath backcomb only slightly and then what you have left in your hand wrap two or three times round the teeth of the comb to secure and just pull...just make sure they are not big chunks as they could irritate the horse, but small chunks of hair wont:) you may find it hard at first and miss some times but just practice its easy after abit :) oh and make sure its a fairly thin comb, we usually use the small metal combs like those for plaiting :)
