Hi,
We're putting in our own manege and are now deciding on what surface to use. We are def using silica sand but the choice is whether we use it with rubber or PVC. We've ridden several times on sand and rubber surfaces and they have really varied - some have been lovely and bouncy, others have been plain slippery and I would never jump on. This needs to be a surface that I can school, jump and lunge on. The other option (PVC) I don't think I've ever used before but a friend of a friend has strongly recommended it, highly above rubber.
Any views?? Plus any places where I get them at a reasonable price with quick delivery?
Many thanks!

I have economytrack on mine which is a mix of silica sand, fibre and rubber particles. Am considering getting some rubber on top and after posting on here the other day, some people thought that the bigger strips could be slippy, esp when wet. My sister had pvc which she thought was good but prone to freeze. I would phone around for the best prices, you are in a different part of the country from me, so it varies.

pvc every time - NOT rubber - hate the surface - some make my horses socks go black if it's wet - others are great huge chunks

pvc - got my top up from equestrian direct and used a mix of their small grain pvc and their large bit pvc - so it actually looks like rubber but isn't

we did the top up ourselves and it's riding/jumping well

original arena put in by charles britton so no drainage or other issues with basic arena - it just needed a top up and this way was about 30% cheaper than getting CB to do it

my pvc/rubber has been in now for 7 years and providing the pvc isn't let to run down so there isn't any - you will not have a frozen surface either.

nope - pvc - the stuff I got was chopped up car dashboards and bumpers - so very environmentally friendly recycling there

I had a whole 40 ft juggernaught full of 'buildsacks' - those white things with 4 huge handles that can be lifted by forklift truck - about 25 sacks for a 20x60 arena for top up as my place cannot take bulk loads in a tipper truck

it rides really well and the original CB surface has ridden well for years - no problems at all

as I said - really really hate rubber leaving white socks totally black when the surface gets rained on

What's pasada then? It's just I'm going to look at a yard who has just put in a brand new pasada school and I'm not sure what it is..

I like silica sand, rubber and fibre mixed. the fibre gives a lovely spring. Think the problem with rubber is that people often add too much.
