wow how amazing these pictures are. i love the full mane thing i guess thats why ive got a mad friesian :D :D (just like me see other post re horse like owner lol)

thank you for the tip crazy friesian. how old is your one??

M&M keep long and flowing (within reason......) Cobs hog, everything else pull so mane is no more than an inch - inch and a half long and plait for special occassions (hunting, showing etc.) Remember a short mane is supposed to show off a cracking top line.......

@ Ibot - No problem hun. Just slap it on. Seems to cool and soothe. Panji doesn't get SI as such (cross fingers), he was just very itchy in all "those places"

Panji is 4 1/2.:)

His tail is dragging on the ground (due to the mud hanging off it atm ) His mane is well below his neck now and his forelock has just gone into that lovely pointy shape. :)

Pic on my avatar was taken at his keuring in September last year. He has grown all ways since then. :D

A rather pathetic offering from Albi, but then he's only 17m so it's all he's managed to grow so far. I've no intention of ever pulling it... (unless he starts to trip on it! :D)

ETA: OMG! I've just realised what an odd shape he looks in the pic... he IS completely normally-shaped but I was standing slightly uphill to him so he's wonky!!!!

Aww bless him. It might thicken up as he gets older. :) He's lovely. :)

Longish, but not thick :D It's the one thing I promised myself I wouldn't attack (said that about his mane and tail...hehe) and I'm very fond of the 'short mane long forelock' look.

any tips to help mane grow???? was thinking of putting dreadlocks in lol :D

Fany has a really thick double mane but it doesn't seem to get longer, just wider. Any advice as to how to get it longer gratefully received. I think she is going for the afro look, but we want to show her in heavy horse classes next year so she needs to look her best. Nice long tail though

Would love it a bit longer but unfortunately another horse has started to eat it, as you can see around her withers... :(

I'm currently attempting to lay his mane, with a view to pulling before our first dressage comp! When I bought him his tail was non existent, forelock was over his eyes and some mane was halfway down his shoulder!! Looks a lot better now though.

Spookypony...your guy is a welshcob?

I never know really what to do with my welsh cob, All the ones I recall seeing have had pulled manes so thought that was how they should be, do you know what they should be like, pulled short or left long and flowing?

I'm not the best at keeping it short just do it when it needs a tidy up really but there is so much of it (the half that hasn't been rubbed out by is general enjoyment of having a good rub and with rugs)

Thanks

I honestly haven't got the foggiest idea what he is...fell off the back of a lorry on the way from Ireland, so to speak...a common guess is that there's Connie in there, but others have suggested NF or even some Highland (What? Really?? ).

My understanding re. Welsh Ds is that they're shown natural if it's in a breed class, but that's only second-hand knowledge from random friends...I'm sure there's some showing peeps on here that will know for sure!

I seem to be lucky in that there are no mane-eaters in the field with my pony. I manage to keep his mane and tail nice and full mainly by not interfering with them: he's mostly left unrugged, and when he does get a rug on especially miserable days, he doesn't get a neck cover. That's what his mane is there for! ;)
