My mare had surgery 2 weeks ago to remove the above. She is on box rest at the moment with vet visit every 5 days to change dressings. She is not a fan of people messing with her back legs so needed 2 lots of sedation in order to redo the bandaging. My vets rehab instructions are a little vague so would love to hear from anyone who has gone through this. A timescale of when to start exercising her, when to release her from box rest etc would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. 2 weeks total box rest, then walking in hand for 2 weeks before check up. Just wondering should I walk her round the paddock (grass temptation), round the school (quite soft deep going) or down the farm road (pot holey and gritty, not to mention busy with farm traffic).

Hi how are you getting on, is your mare off of box rest and walking now? Mine is going in for surgery soon so I'd be interested to know
Thank you

I am riding her again. Mostly walk and a bit of trot out hacking. I followed everything the vet recommended apart from not quite so long on box rest. She is not one for tearing about so she was fine. Lots of in hand walking, at least I got fitter. When we went back for her check up she was sound on the trot up but lame on a flexion test. The vet said not to worry and to start walking her out ridden so that's what I did. I am more of a happy hacker so I am just pleased to be back on board. I hope everything goes well for your horse
