Hi my mare has been diagnosed with a Manica flexoria tear and advised treatment is Tenoscopic surgery or tendon sheath injections. Has anyone gone down the medication route and was this successful? Thanks

One of my precious ponies massacred hers - like, not repairable at all. They resected the damaged tissue. No problems at all from that injury afterwards, once we were through post op recovery. I turned away for 9 months following box rest and she came back into work fully sound and stayed that way.

My pony had same injury in 2015.... had surgery and PRP injections. Was great on box rest but when started restricted turnout on vet instruction he re injured it. Had steroid injections following this but ended up with chronic adhesions/ thickening (I am paraphrasing the general gist here after 10 years may not be recalling the exact terms used.). His prognosis at this point was light hack only walking and occasional trot. He is still with is but was retired shortly after.

Following lameness spring 2024 coblet was diagnosed with damag to his Manica and Annular ligament (both hinds) he had surgery last May. Was good on box rest and through this inhand rehab to be fair, (we walked miles am and pm) but hasn’t really come sound enough even to trot on a hack, and to me his behaviour still suggests some discomfort as he’s quite expressive! He’s seeing the vet again tomorrow but is pretty much retired as I want to do more. He is 17 though and has very poor conformation so probably doesn’t help matters.

Hello

My mare has also torn the manica flexoria in a hind leg. She is 24 years old but very fit and healthy. Been advised an operation carries the best success rate but not sure whether to proceed with this. Trying conservative treatment so was on box rest for 4 weeks and then small paddock turnout. She went sound very quickly but after a week of turnout had a charge about in the small paddock and is now lame again. I use an ice boot twice a day but unsure if this helps. Wondering if there is any other treatment or am I just looking at a horse that will be on/off lame for the rest of her days.

Just an update as its been another 9 months, coblet is field sound and has a sachet of danilon on his bad days. He will enjoy a walk in hand for a few miles, as he did on sunday but definately still lame in trot and wouldn't stand up to any ridden work :(
