Well after meeting up with Finn McCoul at the M11 services, taking a tour round the HGV park and queueing to get out again for 10 minutes the Finn/Jo C convoy finally made it to Manor Farm. Have to say what a wonderful place - fantastic facilities and so so friendly. I will let FMC give you her report for the weekend.
I warmed up for the Novice Music feeling really sick and nervous, then a lovely lady who recognised me from Wix came and gave me a big confidence boost - thank you! Patrick went in and did a much better test than at Wix although he seemed to think flying changes were part of the test rather than changing leg through trot

came out with 68.9% and 3rd place (ok there were only 3 in it but I was only 0.5 of a mark away from 2nd) so I believe we have qualified for the regionals

I was over the moon with that score and after our recently low scoring outings it gave me a much needed boost. Tacked up again for Elem 57 and I have to say I don't really remember much about that test except Patrick did a very accurate and sweet test and came away with 63% and 2nd place. Finn and I put the horses to bed just in time to miss the rain that decided to fall for the rest of the night and the pair of us promptly hit the wine!

I got up Sunday morning with a 'slight' headache and feeling sick which I put down to nerves and not the empty wine bottle

and fed Patrick and Finn who had settled in very well with their stabling and new friends. Patrick was particularly intrigued by the mare and foal next to him and was desperate for a chat with the foal. He had his wish later in the day when the foal was allowed out and immediately came over for a sniff at Patrick, so so cute.
Anyway Nov 32 was up next and we managed a nice test, slightly on the forehand in places and medium trot was a bit lacking but came away with 63.7% and 3rd place so was pleased with that. Finn and I then raided the canteen (food was very tasty) and sat around for a few hours. We both met Ovidius who did extremely well in the 1st elem test and won the class on 67% - well done!

After some thought I decided to ride more aggressively in the last test to see if that improved our marks (I had had a good weekend so had nothing to lose at this point) as usually I sit there trying not to upset the balance. So warmed up beautifully and went in and did a smashing test, very round, actually felt like we were going somewhere for a change (except muppet here forgot to halt at x on the way in so was 2 marks down before we'd even started

) and was upset to see we had got 59.7% so figured we had blown it and I had overridden. It turned out we actually came 2nd and the winner was on 62.?% so I came to the conclusion that the more agressive style paid off.
It was a super weekend and a big thank you to the staff at Manor Farm who were so helpful and friendly. I am back at work absolutely exhausted and feel like I need another weekend.

Sounds like you had a fun weekend - can i ask what you qualified for? As you wrote 'regionals' but you have to win two classes (one qualified and one non qualifier) to qualify for the regionals? Or was it a petplan class? If so then you wil be in the semi-finals at Hartpury, then the top 30 go through to the finals which is held in the afternoon.

Sounds like you have a great weekend and in need of a holiday now!!! Nothing to do with the wine I am sure!!! Very good results too. I think "Riding" the horse like you said does work, I have just started doing this with Mister when I was told to "get on with it and Ride the bloody horse"!!! It is tiring but you get much more out of the tank, plus good workout!!!! I have been told that it will get easier!!! Ummmm...!!!

Well done!!
I am also going through the 'riding' the horse stage, it's very hard work, but is paying off for me, 1st and 3rd yesterday, we've never won at affiliated level before!!
Freestyler, how did you do yesterday?

We were at hastingwood yesterday, got rained on, yuck!
Do you like doing the music classes? It's something I'd like to do but wouldn't know where to start!!

I've only done two but do enjoy them, I find them tiring as you have to think about what you are doing and ride to the music not the test if that makes sense but I think that gets easier with more practise. I had lots of help with mine from Bananaman on here who is fantastic and I couldn't have sorted it all out without her.

Thank you - its seems odd the rules are different for music but I guess that is because there are a lot less music classes around. Now I am going to be a panicing about the regionals.

We've forgotten to tell them about Ovidius screaming down the phone at the MOD regarding that rather low flying aircraft!!! Not impressed and shall be writing to Horse and Hound - MOD said there was nothing they could do!!! The plane was less then 100 feet over the top of the indoor/car park and warm up arena! Bloody ridiculous and dangerous! They were told that they could circle and turn the other way, not over an equestrian centre where there were many horses competing! Think convo ended when I told them that should any competitor or horse be injured as a result of their actions they would be sued..... Funny how she came back on the line after relaying that point to say the plane has been grounded now!

The MOD and the BHS had a big initiative regarding low flying aircraft..... and obviously the MOD have forgotten how many people have been killed or injured by their low flying actions!

Oh yes I'd forgotten that bit! Unbelievable he flew right over me whilst I was in the warm up! I did wave at the pilot!

Hi, yep that was me... you were getting on at the time so didn't want to disturb! We were only in the novice restricted.

Ahhhh!!!! What a shame I didnt know!!! Yep, I am a bit full of nerves until after my test!!
blush.gif
Next time we shall have a chat as I had an hour and a half to kill inbetween tests!!! Let me know when you are out next! Well done on your tests..

. "only Novice restricted"..tut.
ooo.gif
. that is great!!

We have low flying planes over our arena at home all the time - from Salisbury Plane....... Its good for the horses as it gets them used to loud noises. Non of them ever bother, even Archie didnt when he first arrived.

Brilliant news Jo!

Glad you had a good weekend and great results to boot!

Good score in the music class too.......did you enjoy it? Now you need to sort a floorplan for the Elementary Music, eh?!

Lovely photos of both you and FMC.
wink.gif

I did enjoy it once I'd got over my nerves and have a video that FMC kindly took for me which I will fight the computer with tonight. Elem music hmmm I'd give it a good go!
grin.gif
Can I still do Novice music now?
