Hi I'm looking at getting a 3.5 tonne lorry and was wondering if anyone has any advice on manufacturers to recommend or avoid? Looking for a relatively high payload and comfortable for longer journeys for horses and driver. Thanks
 
I have an Equimark. IME if you want a decent payload you might want to get it uprated to 3.9 tonnes which is what I did. But I love my horse box :)
 
Look at BOSS lorries, they are in Flint, flintshire North wales.. I have one on a 57 plate renault master chassis.. Payload is 1300 kg. Low centre of gravity, low driver side ramp, horses travel backwards. I've had a 17 h in it no problem.
 
Oakley, Bloomfield's, Boss or Marlborough are all established manufacturers of 3.5 ton horseboxes and all make good quality vehicles and offer excellent after service.
If you go for an upgraded 3.9 ton vehicle then it will need to be tested by a commercial vehicle testing station and not a normal one that can test up to 3.5 ton.
