My mare struggles with ridden work when coming in to season, oestress has made a big difference and she is much more rideable now but I wondered if anyone has used marbles and are they effective?

Just my quick opinion; don't go anywhere near them!

It probobally depends on the horse yes, but I was riding a 14.2 for a friend for a few weeks, when she came into season she got so so lazy! So we decided to get her marbled! Cue a bucking session with me being dumped three times, when we then tried to get the saddle off she went mad again. We got it removed (with a lot of hassle) and she's back to normal!

But again, depends on the horse, personally, wouldn't go near them again!

Yep - SOME mares decide they don't want to be ridden when they're pregnant - and the marble cons them into thinking they're pregnant (so they don't come into season.)

Some mares manage to 'abort' the marble - for probably 60-70%, the marble meets th purpose for - on average - 9-12 months. Cheaper than Regumate! And less hassle!

heard of marbles and also interested to know - ive ridden my mare pregnant and she was a dream. at the moment her seasons are very showy ( read disgusting! ) and my sharer is finding her nappy when in season. Looking at a supplement first though.

Thanks Janet - informative as usual, meets the purpose for 9-12 months? do you have to have them removed or can they be left in pemanently sorry to sound niave might be obvious to everyone else but this is very new ground to me!

You can get them removed yes, but how easy that could be is debatable. The pony I rode, we found it a nightmare to remove (it seemed to have dissapeared!) but we did get it out eventually!
