I have a little Cob mare who was scanned 45 Days Pregnant on July 11th 2010, I believe that would make her expected delivery Date around the 8th May 2011.
She had a bad scare about 3 weeks ago, which resulted in her tearing around the field and getting herself in a real state, sweating badly etc.
About 2 weeks after this event we noticed blood on her hind legs, we got the vet straight away, and he seems to think placentitis, she is been treated with antibiotics and Pentoxifylline to help increase bloodflow to the placenta.
My vet said she looked like she would foal prematurely, cervix very soft and starting to dilate (approx 1 finger open) That was 11 Days ago!!!!!!!!
She is still losing about 2 cups of blood a day, but it only seems to flow while she is lying down and is quite clotted thick and bright red. No Dirty Discharge.
She is eating and is normal in every other way. The foal is still moving and kicking.
Her udder appears normal for her at this stage of pregnancy.
My vet has advised just to keep the treatment going and see how she goes - but has anyone out there any experience on anything similar, and how likely is it that she could still produce a live foal.
