Hello all, a new mare has arrived at the yard and my mare and she are almost inseparable, they only met on Sunday and now if I bring my mare in the other one follows and whinnies as we leave her in the field, also my mare is displaying as she would if this were a male horse tail up and squirting etc - has anyone else ever seen this, there are around another 10 mares in the field and my horse has never acted like this in 5 years of being with them

That's just mares, quite often they will display to other mares if they're in season.
There are 3 other mares in with Lacey and one of them adores Lacey and will whinny if they're seperated (Lacey doesn't care), it's just mares ;)

Thanks for the reply, I've seen my mare get all "seasony" with the gelding in the adjoining fields at times but these pair are practically joined at the hip

Yip, rosie does this.

She always find another mare to latch onto and they both do the lovely squirting as well.

Normally she goes into a new place all guns blazing, trying to kill everyone but then decides one of the mares will do nicely and takes them hostage as her new bff!
