Hi, As a complete novice in the realms of breeding horses, I wonder if anybody could give me advice on the reccommended upper age limit for a mare having a foal, providing of course she is fit and healthy? She has had a foal without any problems 6 years ago.
Many thanks

Our mare is in foal, it’s her 2nd foal and she is 16. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people in the breeding forum!

ione of our section D mares has had a beautyful filly foal at 23, we put them in foal for as long as possible if they are fit and healthy, when they become about 24-25 they usually become infurtile.

There was a championship broodmare in HH a few months back with foal at foot, she was 22! Though she was an Arab and they are supposed to age a bit slower than the average neddy.
