My mare is hopefully be shod tomorrow *well fronts* and she back in work she's coming back after a suspensory ligament pull and having bred me a little foal..well she's been on a weaning holiday since April..and have decided she's going to be brought slowly back into work...so guys what workload do you think what should I be aiming for..please bear in mind she's also 22..workplan anyone??

I would let her get used to wearing shoes first for a few days, maybe then lead her out in hand round a small block if you have a route nearby for a further few days. Then maybe get her used to her saddle again and be led out tacked up. After a couple of weeks doing this maybe then do the same route with some company if available, but ridden. You know your horse and how calm she will be. From thereon its a case of building it up slowly and all in walk. Personally I wouldnt lunge her, its quite demanding on her joints. If you build up the roadwork gradually it will toughen up her legs and strengthen her all over. I had to do something similar with my mare after a torn tendon, she was out of work and on months of box rest. My vet gave me a lot of help with her rehab and shes doing really well now, hacking out for up to an hour and a half. We have just started to do 10mins in the school in walk recently. The key is not to rush anything. If you have hills around you then even better, she will get fit walking up and down them.

Good luck!
