Hi all *waves* I haven't had much time recently hence my lack of posting....which reminds me I have a few weeks old PM to reply to
Anyhoo....These past few days Vogue has been stripping the bark off trees at every opportunity, she also stood chomping on an elderberry bush when moved onto the new extended part of the paddock. I've fenced this off as I' not sure if it's poisonous or not-conflicting advice on the net and I can't find my plants book, but she was chomping the leaves, twigs et al.... She has plenty of grazing and good hay when in, plus a handful of senior mix.
Also, in a similar timeframe, she's been seeking out nettles. I know it's not unusual for horses and ponies to eat them, and will often leave them to wilt if chopping them and chuck her a handful, which she'll dutifully munch on, but she's not actively seeked out and chomped on growing ones before.
I was wondering if this was an indication that she's lacking something, and could do with a mineral supplement, or lick or anything? If so, what do people recemmend?
Her workload hasn't changed, nor has her routine, she's chewing the wood in her stable or anything, just when she's out (which is pretty much all of the time, she's brought in for 3-4 hours max mid day, to be groomed, fussed, ridden etc, or on hotter days to avoid the hottest part of the day.
I shall loiter around the computer awaiting my replies
Ooooh, ps I jumped a course
it may have been jumped by a small child on a 11hh pony prior to my using it, and I may have gotten lost (seriously-don't laugh!) and taken it a totally different route to everyone else, but I did it!!!
