Mare Fertility Problems

I have a mare that I have had for 5 years and tried to get in foal each year. She is now 13 years old. She has got in foal twice in that time and produced 2 stunning foals (although we tragically lost one at 4 months old). She's a very special mare and I would love to have another foal from her. However she is a nightmare to get in foal!

She's at a good equine repro vet and is scanned daily when in season. She is swabbed. She usually doesn't have fluid but if she has any she is washed out and given Oxytocin. She has good vulval conformation and isn't Caslicked. We always check to see that she has ovulated the following day. She's in good condition, not too fat, not too thin. She gets stud cubes in her feeds. She is AI'd using chilled semen from a stallion with a good reputation for getting mares pregnant, and the semen is always checked under the microscope. Her first foal was with a different stallion and we had exactly the same problems with her so I think its her and not the stallion.

I have now spent thousands in repro fees and stud fees (I only get a 50% discount the following year if she doesn't take). She has had 3 good inseminations (in terms if timing, ovulation, no fluid for 2 of them) this year and I can't remember how many last season. But I know she is not completely infertile.

Sorry that got very long! Anyway, the question was:

Does anyone use any fertility supplements/herbs etc. that they find work?

Any recomendations for studs that have a super reputation with this sort of mare? My though was to try her somewhere else next year (if she doesn't bankrupt me first!!!) and see if they have any better luck with her!

I would definitely try Immunall, i had two years of failed attempts (5 cycles each year) with my one mare, spent a fortune, a friend recommended immunall, she was on it 3 weeks and caught first time (could have been many factors but i really do think it made a difference). Plenty of testimonials on the website too. Delivery is always super quick too. Good luck!

I would recommend Twemlows I had a difficult mare who finally they managed to get pregnant after 2 years of trying and 8 goes! I know how you feel as I nearly gave up due to the expense I had to change stallion 3 times and the third one worked. Finally my mare gave birth this year so all the effort payed off. Give them a ring 01948664966 they are very helpful and their vet has lots of experience with difficult mares.

Hope this helps.

You have given us a great History which is brill :) . One question, you've owned her five years and managed to get her in foal twice. On the failed attempts did she have a foal at foot?

We tried to get our mare in foal two years ago using AI and she didn't take. Last year used the same stallion but natural service and she took first time. May be coincidence?

Have you had a uterine biopsy done? I have been in a similar position with my 13yr old mare and sadly her uterus had degenterated prematurely. I also had a friend with an 8 year old mare with the same senario.

I feel for you as I have done the same thing. However, one thing we *should* be breeding for, is fertility. Just something to think about.
