Did you ride your mare whilst she was in foal?

Am just interested in other peoples preffered sex of horses as I read wanted adds and see lots of people want a gelding, now I personally prefer mares. Sorry to bore people if this posts been done before

Geldings, always geldings, or stallions. Never seemed to click with mares the same, although I'm sure it'll happen at some point.

Well, apart from FestiveG's lady who I would love to be owned by

I wouldn't rule a horse out on gender at all, although I doubt I would opt for a stallion as I have no real experience of them what so ever.
Given a choice I would go for geldings every time- my mare is a grumpy old lady!

Always a gelding. We had to get geldings as used to have a horse who would just attack mares and since then have had two riggy type geldings and thus if we had a mare aswell it would cause far too many problems.

Don't know if I'd be different if had say just one horse on a livery as it wouldn't really matter then but as we have a 'herd' of our own it's eaiser to stick with same sex.

I have 2 geldings, 2 mares and I would only buy geldings now. Mares are far trickier to ride as very sensitive and more unpredictable. Geldings any day or maybe I just got lucky with the geldings and unlucky with the mares??!

I wouldn't rule a horse out based on gender, but my personal preference is for a mare... I love the moodiness and the fact that riding can be a bit more of a challenge if she's in a strop! A lot of the geldings on our yard are boring as hell, with no personality... not saying that's the case for all geldings though!

Mares for me - I too find geldings dull and lacking in personality!

In the past I've built up a good bond with both mares and geldings but the bond has always been much stronger with a mare - I believe they are far more loyal.
