Hi All

As above!!

I am thinking of breeding from my mare and would like to get her graded...where on the web do I find out about the grading days/ roughly when do these happen and what happen sother than conformation...

thanks in advance

without meaning to come across completely stupid how do you decide on the association to register with? I know breed has a part to play but with sports horse societies etc?

Sorry is thats a very stupid question!...just want to get it right!

it isn't at all a stupid question. When I had two of mine graded I looked at their breeding and what they were bred for mostly, though to be honest, had the graders not been going to a particular stud I wouldn't have put my showjumping mare to them...she graded though so can't complain.

I have another mare who is showjumping bred who will go to the AES if possible next year.

Having read quite a bit about grading experiences of others on here and another forum, there are some studbooks I would not go to.

What is your mare's breeding?

would you be able to PM me the good/ bad

She is event bred and looking to breed for eventing...I will be asking a lot more on her in the future but just starting to put the feelers out!!

thank you for your reply!

Sports Horse (GB)....check out their website (sure they must have one?!). Unless, of course, your mare is a specific breed, ie WB, ID, Arab etc., then you would chose the breed society grading I guess.

You've missed the SHB GB gradings for this year.

My mare is AES but graded with SHB-GB as at the time AES were not doing mare gradings.
She is in foal so won't be going to AES gradings next year. May do so the following year once foalie is weaned. Foal will be AES registered though as dam & sire are both that stud-book.

I'll keep you all posted and be asking a lot of questions :-) currently just mulling it over with owners etc

Can a mare be graded once in foal?

It's so nice having so much knowledge in one place so thank you all who answer some possibly very simple questions!

personally for eventing I would go AES - if you look at the list of their stallions many of the top performance horses are with them. As others have said they are starting their mare gradings in 2012

we had our mare graded with SHB(GB) this year and they were really nice, friendly and helpfull.
it was also held at grafham who I have to mention were so accomodating and showed us round all the stallions getting WUAS out for a trot as he is in our top 2, I know it is business for them but none the less nothing was too much trouble.
highly recommend all of the above.
