Help.

my mare had a bucking fit out today on way home, but then when home had a big wee. it was a golden colour, thick ish and strong in smell. she then proceeded to try to wee again, twice, but nothing happened. she was trying to wee and was groaning when trying?! She is eating and drinking, but am a little concerned that she may have a kidney infection. Or am I being silly

When I got my mare I'd only really dealt with geldings previously. Not long after I got her I found her repeatedly straining to wee without much success and obviously in some pain. My YO owner (very experienced) laughed and said she was just in season, but I wasn't happy and called the vet who thankfully didn't laugh - but the horse was still in season! Cue a very embarrassed me! Interestingly though, a few years later, we'd been on a two hour hack and my mare who ALWAYS crossed her legs when she was out and about couldn't hold on any longer and burst as she walked through the yard gate (much to her disgust, going by the look on her face). There was gallons of the stuff so imagine my surprise when just 10 minutes later she burst again, this time into her potty bucket, and it was another huge volume. Luckily I had trained her to wee on command in her stable as soon as I bought her so always made sure she "went" before we set off to an all day show or whatever. I hated the thought of her being uncomfortable.

My mare's wee always smells strong when shes in season and it seems to have carried on recently, presumably due to the mild weather. However, keep an eye on her, our Vets have seen the odd bladder/kidney infections recently.
