I have a miniature shetland mare that had a foal last year and several before that. We no longer have a stallion so she has definitely not been covered. She has started to get milk in one udder? Not painful and she is happy for me to mess with her. Should she have some antibiotics or will it just dry up? Thanks for any advice. :-)

Everyone will shout mastitis - don't panic. My mare started this after about a year after I bought her. 18 years later she still does it. We've had tests and vet checks. Best opinion I had was 1 vet who said 'shes been on big group yards with grooms and she's had a foal. Maybe now she's bonded with u she feels broody'

Get her checked out but don't panic. Good luck.

Mine did this every time she was in a field with lots of clover. Clover contains higher levels of phytoestrogens. I could literally milk her like a cow and it'd run down her leg as her udder was so full.
