Hi everyone

I am new to the forum and have a question please.

My mare was tested 11 weeks in foal last week. However she has continued to appear to be in season and is flirting and squirting and squealing over the fence with the geldings who live in the next field. One of the geldings was castrated 6 months ago as a late 3 year old and still exhibits some stallion-like behaviour. My mare is very happy to present him with her rear end and tease him mercilessly!

Will this behaviour cause any problems? ie causing her to abort the foal? This is my first time foal. The mare lives out with another mare (who is not in foal).

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Think I'd get her checked to sounds like she may well be in season. Is there anyway to can seperate her from the geldings? Maybe put a strip of fencing so they can't touch over the fence?

The vet checked her last week. This behaviour hasn't changed since she was covered by the stallion.

I understand from other threads that mares can continue to come in season even when in foal, and some do throughout their pregnancy.

I was just worried about whether her behaviour with the gelding could cause problems.

Could be she has lost the foal, however I do have a mare who always flirts outrageously throughout her whole pregnancy with the stallion. He, however, does nothing about it as she obviously doesn't smell right, doesn't stop her squirting though.

i have a mare that showed signs of being in season all the way through her pregnancy. had her checked out quite a few times to be told every time all was well and that some mares are just like this. however if you are worried about it get her checked out but if she was only just checked out last week and her behaviour hasn't changed don't worry about it

My mare was the same showed in season to stallion al the way through 3 days b4 she gave birth she would of quite happily stood for the stallion and she is the same this year i think there may be a risk of abortion but this is not uncomen my mare so bad that 4days after foaling she was completly beside herself she would of beaten her stable door down to get to the stallion she went straight back in foal which was not the plan!!!

Had a thoroughbred mare who was scanned in foal - showed in season later on - sent back to the stud. Stud owner finally phoned me to say she'd been covered a further SEVEN times with no signs of stopping !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Turned out she was still in foal from first covering - obviously enjoying herself!!!

My mare was awful for this but only towards my friends gelding over the fence whom she was hopelessly in love with.

She was scanned in foal and had a healthy colt this summer x
