Just feed her normally - making sure she's the right weight - not too fat and not thin. in Her last trimester you can then either change to a stud balancer or add a vit and min supplement formulated for brood mares to her diet.
Thank you for answering. There a chap who's mare is in foal. He asked me if I knew what to feed her, I said I would ask on here as I don't really know. He said she is hungry but as grass to eat. She had a foal last year & he put her straight into foal again after six weeks of her having her fist foal & he never feed her at all whilst in foal or after she had it.
She asn't got the foal with her now, so there is no foal suckling her.
Thank you all again for answering. I will pass this on to him.
Redrose, you might also suggest to him that he gets himself some basic knowledge on the correct management of mares in foal. The grass at this time of year - even if it looks rich and green - has little nutrition in it. Any horse would probably need additional calories even if just additional fibre feeding eg hay/haylage plus basic vits and mins. If his mare is missing essential vits and mins she won't be able to give the developing foal the right start in her womb. Or if she does, it will be to the detriment of her own body. Did he give correct feed to his mare when she was feeding her new foal as well as building another one inside? Could you get a knowledgeable friend to help and advise him?

Thank you BOF, I have told him to call his vet & ask them for advice. He said he doesn't want to do that!
The reason he asked me about feeding, is at that time I was feeding my horse & he wanted to know why I was feeding her
I told him to get some haylage as the grass wouldn't be enough for her. He said if he knew what to buy her, then he would buy it. I am looking on the net tonight to see the best vit & mins to get for her. It as sadden me to see that this poor mare had no food, vit or mins whilst in foal or after her first foal this year & then to be in foal again now.
I will look up as much info that I can to help this mare. I believe she will need something to build her up after foaling & then to be put in foal so soon again & only had grass to eat.
Any advice from anyone on here will be a great help for the mare. Many thanks again.
You're a good friend to him and his mare Redrose - good for you! Tell you what might help, if you put a request in Breeding for an easy, economic management/feeding plan for this mare there will be loads of peole who can offer really constructive help and advice. Let people know how old she is and what breed and how old her foal-at-foot is and how far on the pregnancy is. Good luck hun x
There are a number of feeds available for in foal mares. You could suggest he look at the Baileys range and call them to advise him on a feed that is suitable for his mare. The stud balancer is one I use and my mares eat about 2.5lbs of it per day at the stage your friends mare is at. Obviously it depends on the condition and weight of the mare and the quality of the forage available to the mare.

Thank you for this info. I will get their number & give them a call myself tomorrow & let him know. She looks in good condition & not under weight. I have the vet coming out to give my horse her tentanus next week & I asked him if he would like his mare doing & he said yes, as she asn't had any tentanus injections before. I will see if he will get her checked over by the vet at the same time. Fingers crossed lol
If she's a good doer, then at this stage of the pregnancy all she needs is good quality hay/haylage (LOTS of it!!) + a good min/vit supplement (deficiencies - even in early pregnancy - can lead to problems in the foal!) I use Sure Limb - it's very palatable and I just put a big dollop in a food bowl every second day - the mares lap it up.
Then 6-8 weeks before foaling he needs to give her something like Bailey's Stud Balancer in addition to her ad-lib hay/haylage.
