My mare I'm sure is in season now. Has anyone else got a mare in season at this time of year. Only had her a couple of years, and to he honest didn't notice ridden, or in field really prior to last year. It seems to fit in with a mare who left our yard that had been a brood mare was very obvious and flaunting it, so wondering whether it suppressed my horses cycles, if that's a thing.

It wouldn’t have suppressed her cycles but it might have affected her displaying behaviors of being in season.
Some mares do continue cycling in winter, partly depending on their management (artificial lights in the evening on a livery yard for example)

My mare comes into season any time a new livery horse arrives - male or female. This happened mid December and season lasted a good 10 days. But she's over it again, and hopefully won't go again until the days get longer now.

I agree, my mare seems to have carried on all winter so far, no sign of any respite! Have started her on Agnus Castus, we live in hope of a calmer spring.

Well it's good to know that she's far from the only one. It really only matters as she's in a mixed herd and one of the geldings (new) was mounting her last October. I don't want her being jumped all over regardless, but especially as the gelding has shoes, so the risk of injury and torn rugs is greatly increased. I'm hoping the gelding is moving on for other reasons in spring.

That's interesting. In her case artificial lighting won't be the cause as I only have a solar light for her stable
