I bought a 13hh mare for my daughters back in June.
The first week we had her I believe she came into season but we were not riding her.

Glorious 7 weeks including Junior P.C. Camp but then out of the blue, after a few days of suddenly not wanting to go forwards to trot she became very spooky and distracted and cantered off abruptly dropping younger daughter on a fence pole.
3 weeks later same daughter asked her for canter, just trotted faster 4 times, when asked again bucked quite big, daughter flew over her head and landed in her path and pony looked surprised to see a child there and went round her, luckily.
6 weeks on (pony not ridden after three week interval as daughters on away for a weeks holiday) and pony again starting to be reluctant to trot and not wanting to go into canter.

I assume from checking dates in diary that when she is in season she is not wanting to be forward-going, especially in canter, she does not want to work in an outline either although she seems to be fine to handle on the ground (in pain perhaps?) Can be worse to get into canter on one rein more than the other.

Has anyone had a similar experience? This is our first time owning a pony so would love any thoughts from more experienced mare owners.
Also suggestions welcome. Have been reading up on Mare Ease, Mare Magic and Hormonease
The weeks in between she is a lovely pony, she is a section c and not generally fast, more 1st pony material so do not want to slow her down just relieve any discomfort.
Previous owners had done loads of stuff with her including affliated dressage and had owned her for three years - also told me they never notice she is in season apart from a mucky tail!
Mare owners please help!!!

I'd have her checked out for all areas of pain even if she is often fine. Some horses can just snap, like my mare. If she is truly in no pain (back, saddle, teeth, tack, feet) then try a marey supplement, I'm sure somebody can point you in the direction of a good one :)

Hope you get it sorted :)
