Is this something I should worry about or fairly common.

My 18yr old rescued standard shetland mare Molly is a raving sex maniac when in season. She's just come into season again (though very late in the year I thought) and has started calling for one of the 2 grey Section A MARES the other side of the fence to her field. Molly goes demented, calling and calling for the other mare and running up and down the fence line. She's out with her long term shetland mare friend and her little herd of 3 miniature shetland geldings (2yrs, 2yrs and 3yrs old) and nothing has changed in the last few months so I don't know what this is all about. Could it be a hormone problem? She fancies the big geldings on the yard something rotten but has never called in the 2 yrs I've had her and certainly not for another mare!

Yes..our single lady amongst four geldings loves the mare in the next field. I think she gets fed up and needs another woman to talk to and discuss her hormones. Think I'd be pretty fed up if I was a mare in season with only geldings..neither use nor ornament :D

My mare is out with 3 geldings as she is normally a witch to others mares! However when she is in season she ignores them and is always infatuated with a mare in another field and not always the same one. Full volume screaming etc. x

My mare dabbled in a bit of mare attraction for a few seasons. The other mare seemed to quite enjoy the attention (licking, nibbling and being squirted at?!?!!!) but she soon enough ditched her in favour of the boys again. They where inseparable at this point, if mine saw the other go out they would stand and scream at each other until mine went out.

If only my TB mare would just lust after one horse! Anything with four legs and she's desperate to get to it. Actually she's a bit keen on people too.

Oh crikey! I'd never have guessed this! So many gay mares!!!! Seriously, such a relief! And Dee O'Dorant, your randy little lass who fancies anything with a pulse made me laugh my head off! Long live mares eh? Got a new Tiny filly arriving Weds so will have to see what Molls makes of that!

Thankyou everyone for putting my mind at rest xxx

Haha my mare has just started doing this in the past couple of days and I was reminded of this thread. The other mare does not seem amused! Does stand with her bum to the fence and then gets all uppity though, both as bad as each other the pair of tarts! My mare is squirting a LOT... I've never seen one do it so much and its all in her tail :-/
