My mare is 13 and Iv owned her for 5 years, Iv never experienced any problems with her seasons before.
However lately she seems to be almost in season constantly :O
For example she was in season last week, then she was fine from the weekend until today, good as gold to ride, then today there she goes again :(
Wont concentrate, gawping around at everything, having heart failure seeing another pony etc etc.
Shes due her vaccinations soon so Im going to ask the vet when he comes to do them for advice but does anyone have any experiences of mares being in season alot ?
She lives out 24/7 with a gelding, shes lived with mares and geldings before , seperate and mixed herds, and not had an issue....

Has her behaviour changed much ? My mare had a granulosa cell tumor of her ovary and she was constantly in season but she became like a stallion due to high testosterone. She had her ovaries scanned for diagnosis and a blood test of hormone levels. Surgery to remove affected ovary.

She hasnt become aggressive or anything. Its just literally as though shes in season completely randomly and there seems to be no actual pattern or regularity to them.
One minute shel be a complete angel, the next shel be gawping around, not listening to me, not concentrating at all, spooking at things that literally dont exist.
She does have times in between of complete normality though :)

My mare was very marish for along time then in the march when all the others started coming into season she changed rapildly. Have a chat with your vet as there is things they can do, or try oestress which is very good.
Hope she improves soon x

Over 20 years ago I had a mare that started coming into season very frequently and she would become aggresive towards other mares and flirt with anything male! Spoke to my vet about it and he thought that putting her in foal might solve the problem. I did that and still have her 19 year old daughter. It did work and she returned to normal after the birth and never had the problem again for the rest of her life. Obviously a foal is not the answer for everyone but I am sure there are hormorne treatments available now that weren't 20 odd years ago. Speak to your vet I am sure he will be able to advise you.
