My mare turns into a complete lune in the winter - does anyone else have this problem....when winter comes she goes out during the day and in at night and is clipped so is rugged up...the minute she is rugged up she won't leave the field gate until she is brought in again the evening!! She does this every winter and it drives me mad - she churns up the field gate and refuses to eat any grass...she definately prefers being in all the time but as I don't have the time to ride her every day this is not possible the result is she looses all condition and is generally very grumpy until the summer evenings come when she goes back to her happy jolly self!!
Do you think this is normal mare-ish behaviour? I have racked my brains but can't think of anything that could be wrong - she has company in the field, she isn't too hot isn't too cold!
