I have a 8 yr old mare. I have had her from 2 years. From day 1 she has had bit of a nurotic side. She can be so good one min then she thinks she sees something then looses the plot and fence walks gallops about. The other day she escaped and ended up on the road she was wild. Has anyone had this before and have some sort of answer.??

Has she been kept alone since she was 2, for the last 6 years? If so, I would assume that the behaviour is not possible to reverse but a companion (preferably 2) might help.

No she always has company. She can do it any time not just in the field. She can be fine one min then like she freaks out. She runs off sometimes like she completely forgets what Happeninng.

If the horse is on high alert in the field, because she can't relax without a companion, she isn't going to suddenly relax because you have taken her out of the field. Even the most laid back confident horse can spook at things when they are out of the field (their comfort zone), so one that is never relaxed will be even spookier when asked to move away from her most familiar place.

No need to be rude. If you read my comments properly it's not just in the field

Since two tears old she's been on high alert because she has had no company. She probably learnt this hair trigger reaction at 2, when she needed the security of a herd and to be playing with other youngsters. I would try herd turnout but it may be too late for her to settle now.
