What gender of horse do you prefer.....? most people like geldings but some people like mares, and some have stallions so what do you have or prefer....? Any why ...?
Ive never had a stallion but I have a mare and 2 geldings and I like them both equally ! The mare does seem slightly more a) vocal and b) affectionate, but she is only 3 and not broken so I cant compare their behaviour under saddle yet...
I couldn't care less what sex they are...have ridden all 3, nutty mares in seasons, stallions around mares when they are in season, stallions that kick out at anything...and lovely geldings that just do what you ask!!!!
. I used to always prefer geldings, but if you get a good mare, with time and patience you can create a fantastic bond. Ella (the black mare in my sig) is the most fantastic mare - she has a huge character but we are definitely on the same wavelength and I have a very special bond with her.
I have always ridden, and own geldings, but a few weeks ago, a friend asked me to exercise her 14h coloured cob mare. I was a bit dubious as she is known to be very jumpy. I took her for an hour hack along roads and down a track (which she came down very quickly!
) I loved her! she was great fun, a little jumpy, but nothing that bothered me. I think its down to confidence, and positive riding with either sex.
100% mares! Love them - you need to build a proper relationship with them first but they will then always give you that bit extra when you need it. My chestnut mare had the nicest of temperaments and didn't have a bad bone in her either.
Ive always prefered mares the ones i've had always been quite sharp and a bit qurky so especially at competitions they seem to have the edge, and my one and only gelding i had was fantastic but just too laid back he was very much loved though.
I have a gelding and have a mare arriving tomorrow. I have had both in the past and never had any preference either way. The one good thing with having mares though is the possibility of breeding from them I suppose?
I always said I wanted a gelding but then I ended up with a mare! I have a fantastic bond with my mare, she really is a mummies girl. She has been difficult at times but she is so talented and I wouldnt change her for the world. I have known some horrible mares but IMO if you bond with a mare they are yours for life.
Geldings tend to be more independant and consistant which is why pro's like them.
Geldings !!
wudnt have another mare again too many female hormones !
geldings are more loyal and loveable and respect you more
but thats only my opinion
Mares every time. I've got 2 and they are both SOoooo loving. They try their hardest for you. Neither is marish in season. My old cob is stabled next to a stallion and even he doesn't know when she's in season, or maybe he just doesn't fancy a big black bird, (after all hes a very refined arab). lol. My arab mare is very quiet on her first day in season, think she may get period type pains, but other than that there's no change in her temperment. I've had a gelding in the past, but much as I loved him we never had the same sort of bond as I've got with my mares.
Mares every time! Yes, they're hormonal, and one of mine is a stubborn cow, but they are sooo intelligent. Think the boys lose it when their balls are cut off. My girls are very loving, very demanding, and I wouldn't have anything else. I've also got2 fillies, daughters of the stubborn one, and they are taking after Mum!!
MARES !!!! i used to love geldings but since having my mare i get on with her so much better and i had a gelding on loan and we really didn't agree so now happily only have mares
Definately mares. I currently have 3 mares and one gelding, (my OH also has a gelding)but have previously had a number of mares. I have been lucky and not had any seasonal problems and they are always so much more loving, easier to handle and communicate with. The geldings have all been awkward gits.
Im another mare fan, i just seem to click with them, although everytime we went looking for horses we went to see geldings aswel, the mares just seem to find me!! when i brought Mouse i went to see 12 horses all were geldings apart from Mouse!!
geldings from an owners point of view but the mare i shared for a while got me through so much i cant thank her enough, chestnut mare too would you believe!!
